This could WELL be what my third grade class looks like next year...
Now if anyone needs me, I'll be on monster.com researching a possible career in television watching, lazing around my house, and blogging.
(Thanks to my friend Dorothy for the picture!)
I know Angie would pay me to
watch TV if she could...

Good times, huh?
My husband's police dept has been cutting, cutting and more cutting. he works in a major city in NJ and at best, they have only 10 police officers working per shift. pretty scary.
The economy sucks.
Oy. Talk about a nightmare...
That cartoon is scary. . . and paints a picture of the possible future of public school education. Something needs to be done but I sure don't have the answers!
Eeek yep things are going to be bad
The biggest town next to us had two middle schools but because Arizona is in such a crappy position money wise, the town is closing one of the middle schools. 6th grade will be back in the elementary schools (I think that's not a bad move except there's really nowhere to put them) while the remaining middle school will just have 7th & 8th grade. Oh, & kindergarten will go back to being 1/2 day.
Frightening times, here we come!
(Tucson & Phoenix are laying off police & firefighters too - totally sucks!)
I absolutely do not envy you. ((HUGZ!))
I was in a parochial school in the third grade and we had 46 kids in the class. Way too many for one teacher.
Secretia
Oh, that's so close to the truth it isn't even funny!
That's what mine looked like my first year. Started with 44 students (6 w/o chairs). Went down to 38, 30 of which were boys. So, yeah, it looked exactly like a football team, or two. Good luck!
Let me know if monster has any of those positions available in So Cal, I could totally use one.
I hate hearing people talk about the lack of quality education available for children and then seeing school districts cut, cut, cut and no one says a word! It makes no sense!
Ah welcome to 2010 and the new economy! My best friend is a 2nd grade teacher for an inner city school, so I (vicariously) feel your pain. Good luck on that job hunt...let me know if you find more than one opening :o)
That sucks. I think you teachers have enough kids as it is per class. Any more and I'll be surprised if there isn't a mass mutiny from the teachers.
That's so sad. And a little scary.
Very cool. Another teacher. I was told I will have 30 first graders next year in my class and that is without the budget cuts. Terrific.
