So yesterday my city offered an H1N1 flu shot clinic for elementary school aged children, and since my pediatrician seems to be perpetually OUT of the shot, I decided to take the boys down to get them their vaccination.
Oh, how very THRILLED they were...NOT! <-NOT! is making a comeback. I have deemed it so.
Anywho...it was a madhouse. We waited for about an hour an a half to get up to the shot. My children kept voicing their hopeful opinion that perhaps by the time we got up to the front, they would have run out and we would just have to go home. I assured them that they would be getting shot up...there was no way I was waiting in that line for nothing.
The shots came and went...and nobody cried. (Although I nearly did when they told me we had to wait in the observation area for 15 minutes after the shot. Couldn't I just watch them in the car on the way home???)
And now we have to do it all again after 21 days because they need a second dose. Bah.

So did you get the shot for yourself or your family?
Do you think this Swine Flu thing is way overblown?
Did I mention that the woman in front of us in line for an hour and a half smelled like cat pee?

We will not be getting the shots. I am normally in support of getting most vaccines, but, for some reason, this one just scares me since it is so new. And, we've never taken the regular flu shots either.
Ewww, sorry you had to stand by the stinky lady for so long. That would be awful.
Happy Friday to ya!
We got the first dose for Maggie AFTER we think she already had the flu. The problem? No word on any clinics anytime soon to get the second!
The boys' school offered the shots through the health department & guaranteed the second dose would be available 21 days later. So they got the first one in October. Of course the second dose wasn't available 21 days later, or even now, 5 weeks later. They did it at school, during class time, which was great for me because they said 'show up at this time' and I was only there for about 45 mintues, most of it because they took the kits it alphabetically by Teacher name and my kids's teacherss name begin with T & W. Had I known that I wouldn't have shown up right at the start time.
No shots for us over here. I didn't realize there were 2 doses required!
No shots for us! We all got the H1N1 flu back on October, so we're good for the year.
And cat pee makes me ill. GAG.
I took the kids to a clinic and we had to wait for about an hour and it was past their bedtimes. Not fun. And I haven't been back for their second shot because I don't want to go through that again - I was hoping by now they would have more vaccine available!
Since the H1N1 vaccine is simply a flu shot that never got into the regular seasonal one, we got them. Of course, we think that 3/4 of us had it. With no confirmation they still said that we should get the vaccines since 6 yr old and I have asthma and little guy febrile seizures. The boys go for the 2nd shot next Thursday. It should have been Wednesday, but I refused to do that drama on my birthday.
No shots for us. I have a hard time trusting a vax that was so quickly cranked out. Especially since the pig flu has the same symptoms and the plain old normal flu. Well aside from everything tasting like bacon.
I believe there is not enough known about the H1N1 to give it to my children.
That reminds me it's better to be pissed off, than pissed on!
The boys HS offered the immunizations, but of course I was given the paperwork after the fact and our family doctor is still waiting for his shipment. I was pleased I spoke with him and then sad I missed an awesome opportunity. I am also glad I do not listen to/read others opinions about the vaccine, but rather talked with a trusted medical professional who explained in detail about the vaccine. Now to find the immunizations for my boys.
I never do the shots. Perhaps it's because I'm scared I'll have to stand in line for hours smelling pee.
My husband got the flu shot at work but not the H1N1. My three year old and I got both when we went to the pediatrician's office for my 4 month old's check up.
I got the flu shot so did my twins! my husband hasn't yet.My twins will get the swine flu shot if there any left at the Dr. Me too
We were scheduled to go but then my son got sick and you're not supposed to get the shot when you're sick I think. So we skipped. We'll be like those people who don't vaccinate their children .. we'll rely on everyone else being protected to protect us.
We tried to get flu shots, but the lines were too long! We waited in line for just as long as you did, but we weren't even half way to the beginning of the line!
Apparently some people got up to get in line at 5 am! Nutcases!
So now I'm not going to worry about it. We don't usually get sick anyway!
Oh I hate that for you! I cant imagine waiting in line for that long for something you know your kids are going to hate! we did not get the vacine. on one hand i would hate for my kids to get it but on the other I got the regular flu vacinne a couple years ago and felt so yucky i did not want to do it agin or make my kids do something i would not do!

We skipped the H1N1 shots. Too much conflicting information out there from the "experts."
You have an award on my blog http://www.confessionsfromhh6.com/2009/12/from-academy.html
No shot here. Good luck with the second round.
Hubs and I both got them at work with no wait and no hassle. (health care workers) The boys' school offered them last month. We stood in line for 3 hours and got the first dose. It was a nightmare. We go for the 2nd dose on Thursday.
No - no shots for us.
I've been missing your blog. I want to get your posts via email. Will you be making that an option on your blog any time soon? I hate being out of the loop!
I've been waiting and waiting but our dr's office keeps running out. And since all my kids will need a 2nd dose and chances are there will still be a shortage, I'm not even sure if we'll be able to get one at all.
No, we don't do any flu vaccines. And, there's no way I would have one that was so new. Saw too many horror stories on TV. We'll take our chances. So far so good!
Cat pee... .ewwwwww! I feel bad for you all that you had to stand and sniff that long!
Oh no! WAITING for shots is no fun at all - having stinky cat lady in front of you must have been a nightmare! Oh my goodness.
My kids got both the regular flu vaccine and H1N1. I was VERY nervous about the H1N! vaccine but after my pediatrician educated me about the vaccine I felt much more comfortable, especially since Tennessee has had it everywhere!
