Happy 4th of Aloha!

Today I am going to tell you a sad and true story about my childhood...

Each year around the 4th of July, my parents would pack us up and take us off to see fireworks.

My mom and dad were be SO excited!

My little sister was SO excited!

Me?

I would cry.

And not just a little sad cry, either. I am talking about full-blown please-don't-make-me-go hysterics.

I did NOT like the fireworks. I did not like the bright lights, and I definitely did not like the LOUD booms.

It looked dangerous, and it sure sounded dangerous.

Little Jenni Jiggety was not a big fan of being in close proximity to explosives...

...and truth be told?

She still doesn't like it all the much.

My 4th of Aloha Questions for you this week are:

1. Do you enjoy fireworks?

2. How about balloons? (I am afraid of those, too.)

3. Should I take my boys to local fair even though it is a little sketchy?

4. Which of the following is your favorite Patriotic Song?

a. Star Spangled Banner
b. This Land Is Your Land
c. America the Beautiful
d. You're a Grand Old Flag
e. My Country 'Tis Of Thee
f. Jenni Doodle Jiggety

Have a safe and happy 4th...with fireworks, if you are into that kind of thing!

this is too funny I am the same way, I use to be afraid of them and my parents made me go every year, one year I ran off since I was afraid of them and they couldn't find me. I still don't care for them I think they are a waste of money and would rather go on a shopping spree!

Awww, I love fireworks. Of course I also wanted to join Army ROTC in college (to pay for it) and then be EOD when I got out (explosive ordnance). I like to blow stuff up like a guy LOL.

Taking the boys is up to you. My youngest is still 2, so we're not doing fireworks this year. A 9:30pm start time is too late to have them out.

Hi Jenni,
I love fireworks-as long as I am not the person setting them off, or anywhere near them! That part freaks me out, but they are so pretty to watch...from a distance. I recently discovered your blog and I have given you an award! Please go to the following to collect: http://www.thetamom.com

LOL! I too was not found of the boom sounds! I have still been known to "jump a foot in the air" when they go off.

Yes, go ahead and take your boys to the sketchy fair - you only live once, make sure you live dangerously! LOL

Happy 4th!

I could take or leave fireworks. This is the first year that my kids will see them and I am anxious to see how they react.

Hi Jen.
Ahh...you see one you've seen them all :0. Actually, it sounds like clown-o-phobia.

Local fairs here are kinda gross, over-rated and full of not the most beautiful people.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Jenni Doodle Jiggety.

Oh sorry to hear that you were scared of the fireworks. Not everyone enjoys them, they are loud and can frightening! I love fireworks and balloons as well.

Tammy Howard said...

I can take or leave fireworks. Thank you for lending validity to that (non)stand.

Elle said...

I enjoy fireworks, but our oldest daughter was always terrified and she hated balloons too! I'm not a fan of balloons only because I'm allergic to them.

Aren't all local fairs a little sketchy? The kids don't seem to notice.

d. You're a Grand Old Flag because that's what J-Man calls the American Flag every time he sees it.

Happy 4th!

I love fireworks. We're setting off our own display tomorrow. I like balloons ok but they are too fragile for me. I think you should go to the fair. The sketchy nature of it is part of what makes great fair memories. I'm sort of ambivalent about those songs. They are all ok, but no favorites

mommablogsalot said...

I'm not really a fan of fireworks. There have been a couple times when I've thought, "Wow that was cool," but after awhile, to me - it's like, "Yeah I've seen that before." And I hate the noise - I prefer watching it from inside when possible.

I'm not afraid of balloons... but I wouldn't say I enjoy them either?

Do the boys want to go to the local fair? I don't know, in some ways, I say at least try it, but I'd use your momma bear judgement on that one. There's a wide variety of sketchy out there.

I'd have to say Jenni Doodle Jiggety would definitely be my favorite! :P

I love fireworks. I also love balloons. I'm not really fond of "sketchy" I'd find other plans, but that's just me. I really love America the Beautiful.

Smellyann said...

I love fireworks and balloons. If there are no other choices, take the kids to the fair - unless 'sketchy' means 'not safe.'

The Star-Spangled Banner is the one for me!

I do like fireworks, the really loud ones I can do without though. Balloons are fine ;) I think you should try to muster the courage ... I'd have to hear Jenni Doodle Jiggety first, but I think that might be a favorite!

Brandi said...

I like fireworks! But we aren't aloud to have them where we go camping, so we have to go to town to watch.

I bet you were a bundle of fun for your parents on the 4th lol.

Skip the fair, it's too expensive!

Quirkyloon said...

Aw, poor little Jenni! I hope your parents paid for the therapy you needed to get over that!

Ha!

Just kidding. But, I love firewords, kabooms and all! *smile*

I do not care for fireworks, but my kids and husband like to watch them.

I have no isues with balloon, but I do clowns.

I am not a fan of local fairs, so my opinion would be biased.

Star Spangled Banner although the last has a nice ring to it. ;)

I love fireworks. My kids...not so much. We're going to attempt to see real fireworks tonight. The kids have said they're not scared anymore...we'll see. Yes, take the boys to the local fair - it's Americana. We went to a local carnival last night - sketchy and all walks of life, I even think I saw the lady who drove the Bimbo truck :) But it was fun. The kids had a blast.

Love fireworks! I especially love whem my neighbors decide to do their own little firework display at 2 AM, and I have to call the police.

Sarah said...

I love fireworks! The louder and closer they are the better. I love the thrill. :)

Heatherlyn said...

I do enjoy fireworks. I don't like the loud, but I think they are pretty.

America the Beautiful is my favorite patriotic song.

I don't know about the fair. My kids love ours and so we've gone the last few years but it is sooooo expensive! I like the exhibits. So I drag my kids to all the exhibits. :) They just like the rides. I'm not sure what we'll do this year.

1. Do you enjoy fireworks? Yes

2. How about balloons? Not a fan.

Star Spangled Banner

Oh how I heart fireworks.
All the kids cried the first two years of their lives at the fireworks, but I love watching a 3 yr old!! THEY GET IT!!

You poor thing..

Jeremy said...

Hey! Yeah, feel like I know you too. Yes I am Heather's Hubby. She loves your blog and usually includes some story of yours during pillow talk. :)

I love fireworks and would always be the one who wanted to light them off as a kid. I've handed that torch to my sons.

You should definitely take your boys to the local fair. It's an "experience". Just don't make eye contact with any worker and you'll be fine. :)

I've always liked the Star Spangled Banner although I'll make sure to listen for the Jenni Doodle at the next firework show.

1. Yes. I LOVE fireworks...even if they're loud. I think they're very neat to watch.
2. Balloons are neat but I think they're over-rated. I could live without them.
3. Sure, take your boys to the fair but keep them close. that way, if any weirdos hit on you, your sons can karate chop 'em. ;)
4. I'm gonna go with "e." although "f." is very tempting. lol. My Country 'Tis of Thee is a fave of mine from gradeschool. We would sing it every morning after we said the "Pledge of Allegiance".

I like the fireworks and I would take the kids and America The Beautiful is a great song. Did I get everything? lol

I enjoy fireworks at places like Disney where it's extraordinary!

I am afraid that balloons will pop.I don't like them.

Yes, the boys need to see what not to be. Take 'em to see what can happen if they stray from the straight and narrow.

You're a Grand Old Flag

Happy 4th, Jenny Doodle!

I used to like the 4th more, but I think things have gotten a little strange in recent years. I like fireworks, but my boys are still really little. I like mylar balloons since they last a long time and do not pop easily. Good luck with things :)

OMG! Were we seperated at birth. When I was little I would get taken to the Rose Bowl for the fireworks and I hated it. I would cover my ears and roll into a little ball and just pray for it all to end. Oh and to this day, I do not like balloons because they have a tendency to pop when I'm around and I can't stand the sound.

Yes for fireworks and balloons, except for balloon rides. No on the fair. I just don't think a sketchy fair is safe. My fav is the Star Spangled Banner. Have a wonderful weekend and take care. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I liked the fireworks show as a kid but the one where I live now isn't as good. Go to the carnival, but don't do anything that isn't safe :) And You're a Grand Old Flag is the most fun song!

I can take fireworks or leave them. Our neighbors have them for every stinking event, so it gets old after a while.

I enjoy balloons as party decorations.

Skip the fair; it's hardly worth the experience (unless you want to teach them what happens if they don't finish school or brush their teeth.)

Star Spangled Jenni Jiggety~!

For the last 10-12 yrs we've gone to a neighboring city to watch the 'big show'. Hauling our chairs and blankets. *sigh*

this year they were canceled due to the economy. I was relieved. lol.

So we sat in our front yard and had a great seat for another neighboring communities show! It was awesome. Near a bathroom and no traffic coming home.

Life is good.

Hated fireworks as a kid... love them now.

If you are going to the fair, my suggestion... take lots of money. They soak you dry there!

Personally, I'd rather spend the money on a really nice dinner out. But I'm not sure the kids would feel the same way about that.

I love the fireworks, but have missed them b/c LL goes to bed so early. Hoping we can see our local ones from our porch this year.

and America the beautiful is my favorite!

Happy 4th of July!

oh no jenn im sorry you dont like balloons or fireworks :(

i guess we all have our hates and fears.

I love fireworks. Like, LOVE them. I'm like a kid around the forth. Oh, and I love balloons too. And glow sticks. :)

CaraBee said...

I love fireworks. In fact, I think the boom is one of my favorite parts. I'm a bit of a pyro, though, so that might explain something. Hmm, tough call on the song. I'll go with the Star Spangled Banner since it was written right here in Baltimore.

Jenn said...

Don't like the 4th. It's annoying. We live on a hill where we are surrounded by the sound of exploding from every direction and we have nothing but weeds. Fireworks...weeds...fire...Plus I live with a firefighter.

I understand the fear of balloons as I have a fear of flowers.

Going to the fair? Try it once, if it's a big issue for you, don't go again. I won't do anything with my kids that makes me feel like I'm taking their lives into my hands.

America the Beautiful.

And my Toilet needs flushing lessons too.

LiLu said...

Huh. One of my best friends HATES them, too. We could see them from our back porch last night, and she went inside.

Weirdos.

I love fireworks, but mostly just the ones at WDW. Now that I've seen Wishes, I feel kind of ho-hum about other displays.

My favorite patriotic song is America the Beautiful.

Oh we love the fireworks. Of course my youngest did not seem to like them much this year. He was climbing me like a cat as they were booming over our heads. I had noise cancellation head phones and that helped him a little but he was still really tense the entire time. Poor thing!
