Dear AT&T,
I was so very excited to hear about the launching on the new iPhone 3G S! In fact as soon as I heard about it, I started the full-scale launch of Operation: Get Jenni the New iPhone.
(This operation consisted of top secret husband-convincing tactics that I cannot reveal here, but I can assure you they are quite effective and so subtle my darling husband hardly even knows he's being brow-beaten!)
Anyway, imagine my extreme disappointment when I learned at your website today that I am not eligible for the upgrade until December, and if I want to upgrade now I have to pay an extra $200.
Two hundred dollars? Really? I understand a contract is a contract, but it's not like I promised you a kidney or something. $200 bucks is a pretty steep penalty for someone who wants to continue being a customer.
Plus, do you know how many iced coffees I could buy with that? Is that what YOU would do with my money...buy iced coffees for everyone in the office and laugh at me? Jerks.
In short, all my husband-convincing tactics were for naught. And I guess I will have to wait all the way until December for my fun new iPhone 3G S.
(Unless there is a nice AT&T person out there who can pull some strings? Maybe hook a blogger up in exchange for some nice press in which she does not call you jerks? Because I could totally do that! Call me!)
Your Still Loyal but Sorta Pissed Customer,
Jenni Jiggety
ps: Doug if you are reading this and you WANTED to spend the extra 200 bucks to get me the new iPhone early, it would be like, the nicest surprise ever. I'm just saying.
pps: Can't blame a girl for trying.

I'd like to sign my name to this letter as well. lol
I just 'won' and iTouch.. but um.. don't know what to do with it!! Squeeeeee
And since I have verizon an iPhone is totally out of the question, Jerks!
$200 for a phone? Are they on crack? These cell phone companies need to be better regulated. I understand that we don't *need* cell phones, but they don't *need* to give it to us up the butt without dinner first either.
You are right - a girl has got to try! What a cool phone and I hate contracts!
Yep, I feel your pain!! I was due for an upgrade and wanted the Blackberry storm BUT we have ATT and they dont support it.. was going to get the iPhone instead BUT the salesperson told me to wait til this new one came out... in the end I went with the Samsung Eternity (a lot cheaper) and I LOVE IT!! I have an iPod touch that I use daily and have it already loaded so getting the iPhone would have just meant I have the phone part... The samsung has almost all the same qualities... hang in there... 6 months to go!!

I hate how the cell phone companies work. You actually get way better discounts if you keep changing carriers every few years. I want a Blackberry Bold but it too is $200 and I know as soon as I get it, something better will come out and the price will drop. Hang in there - unfortunately December will be here before we know it.
Tell Doug that a new iphone might make you forget the whole Gold Plated Rose Incident...it's worth a try! (My phone isn't up for renewal until October 2010)
I think that's a nice letter and could have been much worse indeed. I hope you get your new iPhone before December!
From what I hear, there are a lot of upset 'current customers' like yourself. If I were you, I would cancel your contract, which probably involves a $200 termination, then re-up your contract and get the phone at the upgrade price. It would work out the same in the end, but it would be a hassle for them to cancel, then redo your contract.
I want one! I want one! Maybe I can talk my hubby into it too!
I love it!! We could all sign it and it could become a PETITION!!!! LOL!
Lovin' your blog!!
I so love your point of view!!! :o)
We have been with AT&T since cell phones were bricks...we also HATE The upgrade thing...BUT I have to say WHY IPHONE?????????????? GET A BLACKBERRY!
DH is eligible for the upgrade now, but doesn't want to. I'm trying to convince him to upgrade & give me the phone. But he's not going for it
By the time December rolls around the new 4G technology phones will just be coming out. At least according to the commercial that played before Land Of The Lost. I have no idea about anything technologically advanced more than the toaster.
I don't have AT&T for my cell phone but I am a customer of their's for my home phone and internet. And I can attest that they have been sucking the big metaphorical toe for the last three weeks. So this is no surprise that they would shtupe their good customers over this.
In closing, I agree that AT&T need to get their collective heads out of the place where the sun don't shine.
I rest my case.
Wait! Wait! Before getting too bent outta shape CALL AT&T back and see if they will make an exception. They did this for me in the past when I wanted to upgrade my phone but had a a few months left in my 2 yr contract. They DO make exceptions but you have to use your SWEETEST voice when you ask.
BTW, SUCK IT cuz I'm totally eligible for an upgrade and I'm soooo getting one! na-na-na-na-poo-poo
God that was mature.
I hate contracts! Cool phone ;)
I'm so out of the loop--I'm still using one of the chunky phones and hoping to upgrade to a razr this summer--woo hoo!
I want an iPhone. I think.
Yikes! 200 smackers? And you have to wait til December.
Something smells fishy to me.
Bad AT&T! Bad, bad, bad!
I hope your hubby relents and soon. *smile*
Ha! You gotta love how they market these things.
Do you love your iPhone? Like LOVE it, love it? I have been thinking about buying one but I am kinda worried that the novelty will wear off really fast and then I'll be stuck with this kinda expensive gadget I only use as a phone....
They should just send you one for free so you can review it - if I were AT&T, that's what I'd do - I'd also send one to myself... which might be redundant, but it's true.
I could care less about the iphone, but I really want to know what those secret brow beating techniques are. I deeply fear I may be a victim and not even know it!
I had my husband all talked into the Iphone when we got new phones last summer and then he realized that the monthly charges were like $100 and that was the end of that conversation. Stupid, wonderful Iphone.
'brow beating'? Is that what we're calling what you did to convince him? Hmmm, OK. We'll go with that.
I don't think I'd even know how to use that thing. I have the most basic cellphone and even that confuses me.
Yeah we tried to upgrade 9 days before our contract was up w/AT&T and they said, sorry, we will discount that $200 to $150. Thanks, I think I will wait the 9 days. I am now eligible for an upgrade and HB said something about a $99 Iphone as a "push present"....Hmmmmm....
That is so not fair. Boo.
Stuck with Verizon over here ;(
this is exactly what happened to my husband and now he must wait! I have the original iphone and of course am so annoyed at the new features of the new one. So, as annoying as it is for you to wait, you will have the cool one with the video and cut & paste options. and I will be stuck with the old version forever!!!

LUCK!
I think we should make a petition! A mommy blogger movement of sorts!
My son just had to learn that lesson... For Christmas we got him his first cell phone. We thought he would be texting a lot so got one with a nice keyboard (Voyager) I think. He thought it was too bulky so we traded down to a more simple phone.. now he wants the first one back but will have to wait another year!!
