Aloha Jon and Kate! The "Who Cares"? Edition!

Hey! Did you hear?

Jon and Kate might be breaking up!

::::insert gasps here::::

It's on the news, in the paper, and all over the blogosphere!

It apparently qualifies as VERY big news!

But I am not sure why anyone really cares.

And I don't know about you,

but I am fast growing tired of hearing about it!

My Aloha Friday Questions For You Are:

1. Who is your favorite TV family (real or fictional)?

2. If your family were to be the stars of a reality show, what would it be called?

(I'm thinking ours would be, Two Was Enough. Definitely.)

3. What's your favorite show on TLC?

(Trading Spaces? Moving Up? What Not To Wear? Say Yes to the Dress?)

4. Are you on Team Kate, Team Jon, or Team Go Away Gosselins?

Have a GREAT weekend!

Who are those people and why am I constantly hearing about them? Is it just me, or is television and pop culture getting more ridiculous every day?

I don't watch much TLC anymore. I am not at all surprised that J and K are splitting, and I too am sick of it.

Gosh, tough crowd over here today! I know. I know. We're all sick of the Jon and Kate drama -- I guess it's just hard to watch a family fall apart right before our very eyes.

Anywho, good questions -- and since you offer the "fictional" option, I'm going to say I loved, loved, loved The Waltons. For reals. And I loved when they all said "good-night" in the dark at the end. Who didn't love that? I know. I'm a cheeseball!

Bren said...

I'm just not sure what to think of the whole Jon and Kate explosion. We are all slightly voyeuristic but this is taking it a bit too far. As someone who went through a divorce (not with 8 kids though!) it is to the point of being uncomfortable to see.

jen@odbt said...

1. Brady Bunch!
2. Our Daily Big Top (just like my blog)
3. I like the new little people show on TLC.
4. Team Think of your kids

ComfyMom~Stacey said...

I'm on team Go Away tabloid journalism. I don't care who they are or if they are on TV, Stay out of people's private lives when the camera is off.

DH & I are introverts, any show about us would be some sort of 'spot the family' type thing where viewers are encouraged to call in if they think they have spotted a family member hiding as the cameras panned around an apparently empty house.

CaraBee said...

I always loved the Cosbys. Who didn't want Bill Cosby as a dad? I don't watch TLC. I just can't do reality TV, so no J&K+8 for me. Having said that, I don't live under a rock and I am familiar with them and the latest brouhaha. They should shut the show down and focus on their marriage and family. My heart goes out to their children.

Ramblings of a Crazy Mom said...

I grew up watching family ties, the wonder years, and Beverly hills 90210. Can you guess my age? HA!

As far as Jon and Kate go....

I believe they are very different people than what reality t.v. is showing them to be. With that said I see that their true colors are coming out more and more now that they are famous. You have to wonder why all their family is absent. Maybe it's because the rumors are true and Kate is as bad as they say she is. Instead of crying on T.V. about how hard fame is and how hard your marriage is, why don't you shut down that cameras and focus on what's important. Saving your marriage and being a REAL mom to your kids.

WhisperingWriter said...

I wish this family would go away. They give me a headache.

My favorite family is The Tanners from Full House. Everyone seemed so darned happy and if an emergency came up this sappy music would pop up in the background....

My favorite TLC show is Little People, Big World. I want to go to their farm and play at the town they built.

I'm actually on team Gosselins, even though that wasn't an option ;) I enjoy the show, have watched it for a loong time actually when it was just the specials and not the series. I wouldn't wish a divorce on anyone, let alone under the public microscope. Especially with kids involved. I hope they work it out and can move on for their kids' sake.

Blah, blah. I know. One of my favorite shoes on TLC was actually Take Home Chef, is that still on? Hmmm something about a man in the kitchen, with an accent. Nom.

I am a celebrity gossip whore, and I'm sick of hearing about them.

And I LOVE WNTW! Go Clinton!

Tammy Howard said...

1. The Osbournes. Just kidding. (No I'm not.)

2. Fun question!!! I think it might be "Under a Rock" - 3 out of 4 of us are musicians and the other is a squealy fangirl, so there's a rock element there. We don't watch much TV and are not always up on the latest - so under a rock would kind of work that way, too... as soon as I hit publish I'm gonna think of something awesome...

3. What Not to Wear is a guilty pleasure.

4. I've never seen the show. I really couldn't care less. Why must I see these people everywhere I look? Can I be on Team Go Away Reality TV?

Em said...

I want them to go away. Focus on the family, not the camera following you. Not quite shocked that it came to this - their body language is way too easy to read.

I'm afraid I don't get much TLC time any longer - how about Discovery?

And favorite reality family - I hate to admit it, but I caught "Tori and Dean" the other night. I wanted to hate them. I swear I DID want to. But regretfully, they're actually quite funny. It's now on my DVR schedule.

Don't hate me.

Our title: "What CAN your kids eat?!

robin said...

Thank you, THANK YOU for not taking these two seriously. If I read one more earnest post about how they should break up for the sake for the children, I might throw up. (Make fun of her haircut all you want, though. Cause THAT'S funny!)
I loves me some stacy and clinton and Not to Wear. I only wish I could get a fab makeover... I guess I need to embarrass myself more.
Happy Friday!

Ok, how did you know that TLC was my FAVE channel???

1. Love to watch The Roloffs on TLC's Small People, Big World.

2. My show title would be Just The Two Of Us

3. I love love LOVE What Not To Wear!! I watch it whenever I can and I watch reruns. I always seem to learn something new.

4. I'm on the Go Away team in regards to Jon and Kate. I think I've watched 3 episodes from beginning to end. The way they interacted always bothered me.

Have a great weekend!

I'm with you on the Jon and Kate thing. GO AWAY! lol. I guess what 'made them' eventually 'broke them'. Sad but who gives a crap.

I identify our family somewhere along the lines of Roseanne, Gilmore Girls and Home Improvement. lol. And if we had a show I don't know what it would be called but 'insane' would be somewhere in the title.

p.s. LOVE your comment on my post, lol. I actually did lol. :)

Candice said...

I've seen approximately 1 1/2 episodes of the Jon and Kate show, and the fact that their marriage is in the shitter is about as shocking to me as when Rosie O'Donell came out of the closet.

In other words. NOT VERY.

I'm ready for them to fall into obscurity for sure.

Colleen - Mommy Always Wins said...

I'm loving that Table for 12 family...their house is a mess, the Mom is stressed but not a bitch and they seem NORMAL. (Like ME! Except for the bitch part.)

The thing I don't get about this whole Jon & Kate thing (yes, I'm an avid watcher, since the early days of the show - its one program my kids AND I like that's not cartoons or muppets) is that he apparently now doesn't want the limelight the show brings. (Duh.) She, on the other hand, loves it. In the past few years they've been doing this show they've switched roles - she used to have only her "Mommy identity", he worked outside the home and had his "separate from the family" identity. Now the roles are reversed and unhappy...if they are both truly committed to making their marriage work, they BOTH have to be willing to do whatever it takes to restore it. Like as in cancelling the show if necessary. If you ask me, the $$ is nice, but if your marriage fails you are far worse off than if you are broke and together, right? Marriage means sometimes having to make the tough decisions, like eating crow, if what you want in the end is to be together and happy.

Go away Gosselins! Why does US Weekly insist on having you on their cover the past 3 weeks!! I am LOVING Cake Boss right now. I love cake and they have some beautiful creations!! It just makes me hungry.

I love me some Brady Bunch. I mean sure they had Alice to help around the house, but I can't see Mike out tossing back shots with the college crowd, you know?

Go away Gosselins! Although I might scan the magazines they grace the covers of, but only while I'm in the check out lane. ;)

My favorite reality tv family? How about the New Jersey Housewives. I can not believe there are people in the world that really act like this! Jon and Kate are ALL over the news. It is CRAZY how all over the news they are. I don't like Kate at all so I guess I am on Jon's team! : )

Apart from the fact that they are in the news suddenly, I really know nothing about Jon or Kate - I've never watched the show and really could care less.

1. My favorite tv family is probably Rob & Laura Petrie from the Dick Van Dyke Show.

2. If my family was in a reality show I'm thinking nobody would watch it - we're terribly boring - I'm thinking the show would be canned before anyone came up with a clever name. Or maybe I'm just copping out because I can't think of anything. :P

3. I'm so out of date on TLC as we just got a normal "cable" plan again after like 2 years of just basic tv but I remember I liked Trading Spaces, Clean Sweep and What Not To Wear the best.

4. I'm clearly on Team Go Away Gosselins.

Sprite's Keeper said...

I miss Clean Sweep! Befores and afters have my heart.

I was an avid fan of J&K+8, but the news stresses me out. I just hate to see a relationship fail no matter what the triggers are. I feel bad for the kids, but Kate is coming off like a selfish diva who is constantly put out by her daily life and even her kids, and Jon, while sounding pretty sincere about his need to lose the fame, keeps going out and getting himself noticed. Either trying for ratings or trying to kill the show.
I'm for Team Go Away. Prioritize, please! Family before fame!

i have to say - i'm not a regular jon & kate watcher, but i happened to catch most of the most recent episode and omg, it was so sad. i cried through the whole thing. i'm sure my beached whale hormones don't help matters, but it really was a depressing thing to watch.

I love/d the Huxtables on the Cosby Show. The parents were so knowing & the kids did similar things to my sisters & I. Plus my dad was like a white Bill Cosby!

Reality stars? I'm thinking we'd be reality dudes!

Favortie TLC show was Jon & Kate but I'm very sad over what's happened although not surprised. End of last season was getting a little tense between them. I also really love Little People, Big World.

I'm on Team Get Your Act Together, Gosselins!

Jinxy said...

I don't have tv reception so I have no feelings about Jon and Kate.

Our reality show would be "All you need is love" or something corny like that.

ParentingPink said...

I'm definitely a member of the "Go away Gosslins" group! I am sooooo sick of seeing Kate on the cover of magazines complaining. Seriously! Ugh!

Anyway, I love "What Not to Wear!"

I am ready for their show to be cut. Idon't really have a fave family on tv...does the cast of "Friends" count? If I had a show it would be called...Chasing Aiyana & Chloe.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stipping by my blog!

Brandi said...

I don't know who my favorite TV family is...we watch a lot of basketball and reality tv...unless greys anatomy or army wives counts...but then they aren't really families.

Our family name would probably be
"Just getting Started"

And I don't know who's team I am on...but somehow I get so sucked into it. I don't get sucked into other movie stars like I have the Gosselins, and I am not really sure why!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Heatherlyn said...

Oh my. We have watched the most Everybody Loves Raymond. But I don't like those families. I probably like the family from that 60s show. I don't know why. Except that the parents acted like parents and real people at the same time.

I love the name of your reality tv show. Maybe ours would be "one day at a time".

I don't watch enough tv to have a favorite show.

Definitely Team Go Away Gosselins. I think it is really really sad to have a marital breakdown on t.v. when the show is about you and your kids. Poor innocent children.

Hit 40 said...

I love the show "flipping out" for reality tv. For just tv watching - weeds and dexter ROCK!!!

I am not following the Jon/Kate thing very close, but didn't he cheat on her??? I know she is a little bitchey! But 8 kids!!! If he cheated, then I am on her side.

Muthering Heights said...

I'm kind of on team "Go Away Gosselins." I think it would be best for their family to withdraw from the public eye and work out their issues in private. Seriously, is anyone even thinking about the kids, even a LITTLE?

I am soooooooooo tired of hearing about these people too.

1. I can't think of my favorite TV family really. Most of the shows I watch don't really have "families" on them.

2. I have no idea what our show would be called.

3. I don't really watch TLC.

4. DEFINITELY Team Go Away Gosselins.

Night Owl Mama said...

As far as Jon and Kate go? Who are they? No I don't live under a rock. LOL. Just goes to show how much their relationship affects my daily life and thinking.

OUR show would be called Still Standing. My favorite on line tv family they remind me of our family

1- My favorite tv family of all time were the Brady's. Being a step-mom myself I just love all of the blending! Of course, hubby and I are TTC so I guess we would actually one-up Mike and Carol, LOL!

2- I think our reality TV show would be called "737", the first 7 for the number of kids my husband would have after ours would be born and the '37' for the age I got pregnant. Sheesh, we'd better get busy, 38 is only 37 days away!

3- Don't have cable anymore but my favorite TLC show was always "A Baby Story" (are you sensing a theme here, LOL)

4- I am definitely in your camp Jenni, I'm on Team Go Away Gosselins!

4) Definitely Team Go Away Gosselins, so over them.

My new favorite show is Glee (but it doesn't start for awhile).

TLC fav.....I like that show moving up (I think that is what it is called). It is when the film people coming back to their old house and trashing what the new owners did to their old house. It's great.

I'm not really into the whole Gosselin saga.

I've gotta say that my Fave Fam is either the Winslow's from Eurkle or Goerge Lopez and n'em.

I'll take WHAT NOT TO WEAR for a thousand, Jenni.

Enough of Jon and Kate!

Cameron said...

I'm on Team Jon - the poor guy is like a beat dog. Kate is just so very harsh and mean most of the time. HOWEVER, I think he might be stickin his toys where they don't belong, and I certainly don't condone that.

Regardless, this show needs to go off the air. If I have to hear a kid say, "Don't go daddy" or "Don't go mommy" I'm gonna flip.

Matt and I would be Ray and Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond (but without kids)
My favorite tv family is still The Cosbys.

Maggie said...

1. Do the people on the Bachelor(ette) count as family?! lol

2. Oh yeah, "Two is Enough" works for us too.

3. I like Moving Up.

4. Team Go Away, definitely. I mean come on. I just don't feel sorry for Kate when she says the media is ruining her life. Hello?! If you don't want the media in your business A) Don't start a reality TV show and B) don't let People interview you and put you on the front page of their mag to talk about what you think is going to happen w/ your marriage. Good gosh, it's not rocket science. I mean, I get it that the show will help them financially in ways they prob never dreamed (and w/ all those kids - you KNOW they needed help), but you can still draw some lines and keep your privacy to an extent. My take on their relationship is, she is a little naggy, but I guess you'd have to be to run that large of a household, and if you're not cheating, what on earth are you doing at a bar (WITH A GIRL) at 2am when your wife is out of town?! He's dumb as a box of rocks if you ask me.

Actually I do care because I feel sad for them. They seemed like a nice couple, despite Kate being a bit of a witch at time. OK. a big witch. But I still wanted them to make it. However, I predicted long ago that he was going to walk on her because of how mouthy she was/is. It is just very sad though and I can't help wondering what will happen to them.
